RARE Seiko Chronograph Sports 100 7A28-7009 Alien watch

This rare Seiko Chronograph Sports 100 watch was designed by car designer Giorgio Giugiaro and is often referred to as the “Alien” watch because the character Lieutenant Ripley (played by actress Sigourney Weaver) wore a silver colored version of this watch in the 1986 movie Aliens.

The original 42mm black PVD case shows signs of wear but it actually looks very nice and rugged like this on the original Seiko bracelet. Inside is a Seiko caliber 7A28A quartz chronograph movement, made in Japan with 15 jewels.

The vertical chronograph pushers are what make this watch unique – the top button controls the start and stop functions of the stopwatch while the bottom button resets it back to zero. This example has a crack in the bottom pusher, which is very common. If you find spare pushers available for sale, it’s not a bad idea to get them just in case you need to replace the pusher some day.

KeepTheTime originally sold this Seiko Alien for $410 USD back in November 2009. As of 2022, these pieces are selling for $1,400 – $1,800 depending on condition and includes.

Additional Information:

  • Silver is reference 7A28-7000 (the true “Alien” watch)
  • Black as shown here is ref: 7A28-7009

Update:

In 2015, Seiko released a modern reissue of this model, also in the same black or silver colorways. One of the easiest ways to tell the difference between the original and reissue watches is that the newer pieces have “Giugiaro Design” engraved on the caseback with a limited edition number out of 300. The original caseback has the vintage Seiko waves logo as seen above.

The reissue reference numbers are:

  • SCED035 (silver)
  • SCED037 (black)
