Is watch photography an art or a craft? Is it both or neither? What makes it more of one than the other?
Is it the retail price of the subject? The availability of the model? Is it the amount of engagement a post gets? Favoritism by a community or algorithm? Is it the camera equipment used to capture it? The edits made after the shutter has done its job? The Lightroom presets used? Is it the angle, reflections, the colors?
Perhaps the answer can be found at the intersection of where the intention of the creator meets the feelings it evokes in the audience.
Be it an art or a craft, watch photography is just as enjoyable either way – which is why we’re all gathered here admiring it in handheld virtual galleries like Instagram, isn’t it?
