This beautiful Hampden Watch Co. John C. Dueber railroad pocket watch features a nickel silver case from the Illinois Watch Case Co.

The Story:

Based on the movement serial number, the age of this Hampden Watch Co. pocket watch is estimated to be circa 1888-1889. This is around the time when John C. Dueber moved the Hampden Watch Co. from Springfield, Massachusetts to Canton, OH (source).

Made in USA:

In 2022 you have two choices for American watches: buy into confusing marketing hype and phrases like “built in Detroit” or “designed in LA” or you can own a watch like this that was actually 100% made in USA. – Canton, Ohio to be exact.

Movement/Case:

The movement is signed John C. Dueber; Canton, O; Hampden Watch Co.; Pat. Pinion; Adjusted to heat & Cold; 638885. The case is signed Illinois Watch Case Co.; Nickel Silver; 744531.

Sound Experience:

The movement provides a solid ticking sound, not too tinny thanks to the heavy case. The sound can be heard while the watch is nearby, possibly across a quiet room, but not as loud as some others. The crown has a nice firm ratcheting sound.
