1890 Elgin B.W. Raymond

Elgin B.W. Raymond Pocket Watch

What you see before you is a B.W.R. model. The initials stand for Benjamin Wright Raymond. As the story goes, Benjamin Raymond was the former mayor of Chicago in the 1840s, but he was also a businessman. in 1964, he partnered with a group of entrepreneurs, including J.C. Adams from Waltham Watch Company and built Elgin National Watch Company in Elgin, Illinois. Four of the partners bought 35 acres of land and then donated it to the company where they built a facility which was completed in 1866. The new watch company convinced 7 Waltham watchmakers to resign from Waltham to start building Elgin watches. The first Elgin model was released in 1867 and was named after B.W. Raymond. Elgin produced watches until around 1968.

This heavy pocket watch features a silveroid Keystone open face sidewinder case. The American made movement signed B.W. Raymond for Benjamin Wright Raymond. Made in Elgin, Illinois. The BWR movement in this piece was considered a workhorse movement in its day. The ticking sound it puts out is phenomenal! Excellent for ASMR or meditating. This is a solid railroad style watch suitable for your desk or jeans pocket.

This series was produced between 1874 and 1895. There were 74,500 made. Based on the serial number, this watch was likely made sometime between 1890 and 1891.

In 2019 you have two choices for American watches: buy into confusing marketing hype and phrases like “built in Detroit” or “designed in LA” or you can own a watch like this that was actually 100% made in USA.

Why KTT?

Quality Over Quantity

For over 10 years we have built our business on providing friendly service, a beautiful website, in-depth information and detailed videos. We deal in watches that you usually won't find together in the same place - from Rolex to Invicta and modern microbrands to antique pocket watches. Check back often, you never know what you will find!

Why Ktt Specs

Watch You See Is Watch You Get

Since the beginning, KeepTheTime has refused to use stock photos. After passing through our logging and inspection process, our in-house photographer gets up close and personal with each watch. After the photoshoot, we begin our research, verifying the detailed specs by hand. That's why you will know exactly what you are getting when buy from us.

Why Ktt Photos

Ready to Wear

Some watch dealers don't bother to clean the used watches they sell... you can see the dirt and grime in their pics, gross! At KTT, we're unabashed germophobes. That's why we thoroughly sanitize every watch before we even begin posting it, then once again before shipping. Your watch will arrive clean and ready to wear!

Why Ktt Clean

Second To None Packing + Shipping

One of our favorite customer comments is that KeepTheTime is the Brinks Truck of shipping watches. We take packing very seriously, from the use of biodegradable peanuts (pet friendly!) to absurd amounts of packing tape, you can rest assured that your new-to-you watch will arrive safely. Some of our competitors ship within 1-2 weeks because they take your money first then try to source the watch second. KeepTheTime watches are in stock and ready to ship. That means we can get your order on its way within hours not days.

Our Other Project

Spreading movement awareness. When we’re not filming, reviewing and trading watches, we’re building a community for enthusiasts to geek out about what makes their timepieces tick. Caliber Corner is a movement database and forum for collectors who want to learn about watches, not just wear them. Join the movement.
