Boldr Bronze Odyssey Meteoblack

The Singapore-based microbrand watch company BOLDR is perfectly named for the watches they produce. It’s also a play on words: their pieces are bolder than most, big and tough as a rock… or boulder. The Odyssey Bronze Meteoblack is a prime example, and funny enough, actually has a slice of space rock (meteorite) on the dial.

Years ago, we sold this Berkbinder Brown piece that was one of the first bronze watches from a microbrand, which at the time received mixed reactions from our fans. Fast forward to 2019 and many of the brands at all levels are putting out bronze models. It makes sense really, bronze looks great, it’s durable, and the finish transforms  into a reflection of the owner – a unique patina that can be enjoyed or easily cleaned.

Boldr Bronze Odyssey Meteoblack Dial

Some watches just look better in marine grade CuSn8 (the material code used for the phosphor tinbronze alloy used in most bronze watch cases). The BOLDR Odyssey is one such watch thanks to the sharp and edgy design of the case.

At 45.5mm diameter, it has a “bold” presence on the wrist. The lug width is 52mm and stands 16mm tall.

The dial is formed from a slice of authentic meteorite that was was colored black, hence the term Meteoblack that BOLDR coined.

“The Odyssey Bronze MeteoBlack features a meteorite dial, extracted from fragments of the Muonionalusta Meteorite, discovered the north of the Arctic Circle in Sweden and is roughly about 4 billion years old.” – BOLDR

An inner bezel ring resembles a similar style found on the Rolex Deepsea and reads: Helium Release Valve/Triple Lock Crown.

Boldr Bronze Odyssey Meteoblack Lumeshot

The hands and markers have a matching bronze tone and generous amounts of lume. With the lights on, it looks khaki or creamy in color, with the lights off it glows green.

The uni-directional rotating bezel has integrated markers, but also a lume pip at 12:00 for keeping track of your oxygen tank in murky conditions. This is a diver after all, with the 500m/1,650ft depth rating, screw-down crown and helium release valve on the side of the case.

Boldr Bronze Odyssey Meteoblack Limited Edition

BOLDR only made 250 of the Odyssey Bronze Meteoblack, and each one is individually numbered between the lugs.

Boldr Bronze Odyssey Meteoblack Caseback

This an automatic watch, powered by a Seiko caliber NH35A. Learn all there is to know about this affordable workhorse movement here.

A solid caseback was used to secure the deep water resistance. As with most bronze watches, the back is in stainless steel. This is to help keep your wrist from turning green from mixing with the salt in your sweat. The back of the Odyssey features a custom design from Melbourne artist Ashwin Royan.

The BOLDR Odyssey Bronze Meteoblack ships in their signature tough carbon composite carrying case. The retail price is $749 USD.
