Rolex Pens and Other Promotional Items
Merch. Schwag. Paraphernalia. Whatever you want to call it, a lot of KTT’s clients collect more than just watches. Pens, lighters, travel mugs, USB thumb drives, notebooks, briefcases, key chains, even fine chocolate… these are just some of the objects that manufacturers are printing their logos on, and these advertising freebies are becoming more and more popular among watch enthusiasts. The best ones are usually promotional items given out at Baselworld, but serious collectors have even been known to accumulate store displays such as mirrors and watch holders.

The Rolex pens you see above are some of the most desired pieces of promo-schwag in the watch world. The gold and silver pens to the left are known as Rolex “wave pens,” because of the wave-like patterns (note: the gold ones are sometimes referred to as president pens). These writing instruments are especially cool because they have a Rolex coronet (the crown logo) on the top of the pen that appears to rest under a dome of epoxy, and twisting it will adjust the clip on the side. The smaller green pen to the far right was manufacturered by CARAN d’ACHE for Rolex.

New Rolex Watches at Baselworld 2011
The Rolex Baselworld 2011 released might not be as exciting as previous years (for example the Deepsea in 2009 and green dial Sub in 2010) but they truly came up with some impressive additions… especially the additions made to the Daytona lineup. Leading up to the show, everyone was wondering what Rolex could possibly have planned to improve the watch that is already bordering on perfection. The answer is in an 18K Everose gold case, topped with a Chocolate Brown or Ivory dial, surrounded by a Monobloc Cerechrom (ceramic) bezel… the updated Daytona 116515LN.
The new Rolex Daytona models that were launched in Basel this year are spectacular, but the new 44mm TT (steel and Everose gold) Yacht-Master II 116681 is probably going to be the most desirable watch out of the new lineup. What’s the retail price going to be? We heard somewhere around $19,000.
By far the most discussed release around the Rolex booth this year has been the new 42mm Explorer II 216570 (caliber 3187). The updated design is splendid and an all-around perfect change – however, rumors indicate a change in price point that is far from perfect. At $8,700 why wouldn’t you just buy a GMT-Master II?
