Kobold Phantom Black Ops Tactical Chronograph Watch

This Kobold Phantom Black Ops Tactical Chronograph watch (model: KD 924453/KD924453) has a Swiss made, 25 jewel automatic movement based on caliber ETA 7750. The movement is housed in a 41.3mm (15.33 thick) U.S. manufactured stainless steel case with a matte black PVD coating. Including the crown, the diameter is 45.8mm.

This watch looks great on a black NATO strap or on the installed PVD coated titanium bracelet (a $1,600 upgrade). If you want to wear the watch on something else, the lug width measured 20mm. A slightly domed sapphire crystal provides a clear view into the dial. The matte black dial features day/date window at 9:00.

The Black Ops has a depth rating of 300m / 100ft and is equipped with a screw-down crown. The black bezel is uni-directional rotating. The retail Price is $4,650.

Hamilton Khaki X-Wind

Hamilton Khaki X-Wind

Hamilton Khaki X-Wind Chronograph Watch H77696793

This Hamilton Khaki X-Wind chronograph watch is model H77696793. It has a Swiss made automatic movement with 25 jewels. It is the tried and tested caliber Valjoux 7750, which is often recognizable by the feeling of the rotor spinning powerfully inside. One of the reasons for this mini-helicopter-like spinning is because the rotor on a 7750 doesn’t ratchet backwards.

The case is stainless steel, but finished with a high quality gold plating that is 10 microns. The diameter is a comfortable 44mm (and approximately 50mm including crowns on the right and left) with a thickness of 16mm. The black dial is actually black carbon fiber with rose gold Arabic numerals. The layout of the dial features a day/date window at 9:00 and an internal bi-directional rotating bezel – controlled by the crown located at 4:00. The outer bezel is black (this is available in rose gold tone on other models) and also bi-directional rotating.

The original Hamilton strap is black leather with a carbon fiber texture that matches the dial. The “H” tang buckle is an especially nice touch. If you want to changeto a NATO or other style strap, the lug width is 22mm. The total weight of this watch is 142g. The crystal is a scratch resistant sapphire. Equipped with a screw-down crown, the X-Wind has a depth rating of 100m. This set from KeepTheTime.com includes the Hamilton boxes, manual, warranty card. It is in unworn condition.

Retail Price: $1,795

Kobold Watch Museum – USS Pittsburgh

Rare Limited Edition - only 100 worldwide

Rare Limited Edition - only 100 worldwide

Undoubtedly one of the most challenging and desirable professions in the world of seafaring is that of a submariner. Our USS Pittsburgh Chronograph pays tribute to the vessel USS Pittsburgh, a Los Angeles class nuclear attack submarine and its crew, as well as countless other submariners. Its signature bezel, with the distinct beveled edge and the relief-engraved minute scale, in combination with the unique crown and push-piece guard make the USS Pittsburgh a classic yet functional timepiece.

Limited to 200 pieces only, the USS Pittsburgh Chronograph offers other thrilling features. We thought that such a beautiful case must protect only a most lavishly decorated automatic movement. Therefore the movement was hand-decorated and features a gold-plated winding rotor, which has been skeletonized and engraved with our company seal. The bridge and rotor also feature Cotes de Geneve polishing and the other plates have been engine turned. Finally all 25 jewels were set in gold, and to complete the ensemble, the screws were blued. To distinguish this model even more from its peers, the dial features the vessel’s hull number -SSN 720- above the hour register. As a result, the USS Pittsburgh Chronograph is the only Kobold watch ever to feature this prestigious classification from an official certification board.
-From the Kobold website

We’ve got our hands on a very special timepiece for all the Kobold fans out there. The Kobold Watch Company U.S.S. Pittsburgh was a collaborative design between KoboldĀ  and Chronoswiss of Munich. The collaboration is a fine testament to the time Michael Kobold spent as an unpaid intern at Chronoswiss.

As the story goes, Michael was a 12 year old boy when he began collecting watches and he was fascinated by the complex inner-workings of the mechanical movements in his collection. He would remove the case backs to study the world within and take watches apart just to put them back together again. At the youthful age of 16, Mike began sending letters to various watchmakers, begging to be brought in under their wing. He yearned to have any part in the watch industry, even if it meant being an unpaid intern.

Gerd-R. Lang received one of the boy’s letters and invited him to Chronoswiss in Germany. After putting in his time at Chronoswiss, he traveled abroad to attend college at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – where it all began.

Rumors have it that he started the company in his dorm room, operating exclusively through the Internet. Now, Kobold has become a name recognized all over the world by watch collectors. He really did make it to the top so to speak. For the 2009 Everest Challenge Expedition heĀ  climbed to the summit of Mount Everest for charity. The goal was to raise $250,000 or more for the Navy SEAL Warrior Fund. Now that’s what you call great marketing!

Among famous brand ambassadors like James Gandolfini and Sir Ranulph Fiennes, many other recognizable names are known to sport Kobold timepieces including: President Bill Clinton, Kiefer Sutherland in 24, Leonardo DiCaprio, artist Burton Morris (also from CMU), and even the Greatest Performer of all Time, Michael Jackson.

“The Willy Loman Watch”

montblanc-back

Richemont group owns and operates some of the best watch and luxury goods companies on earth! Then, came Mont Blanc! The well known pen company said about 10 years ago, hey let’s make watches and so the under-appreciated brand of watches began. Pens, being their forte, they still produce watches, whether people buy them or not they still get assembled and with hope they will sell…. The sad part is, they are nice, real nice. Beautiful designs, the nicest bracelets you have ever seen. If you search for a real bargain, Mont Blanc is the watch! Take the above shot, 7750 movement, all stainless steel, black coal dial with hints of red that contrast perfect. Tons of money and effort and they still don’t take off in America? Get one why you can, I hope they hang on, maybe celebrity spokespeople, oh it’s been done? KTTB
